Event Description

"Wonderment" -- oil painting by Sarah Warda

The Gallery on the Green has its annual exhibition of “Members’ New Work” plus two solo shows. The new work includes prints, drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, collages and fiber art by our membership of over one hundred talented local artisans. There will be an opening reception with free refreshments on Saturday, January 5th from 6 – 9 pm. Sarah Warda has a solo show of oil paintings entitled “Human/Nature.” Warda seeks to explore the complex interconnection between human beings and the living environment around them— a world that they are part of but also separated from. Her work shows light revealing “the mystery of the inner world” of her subjects. Her award winning paintings have been exhibited at the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, and the Lyme Art Association. She has been commissioned to paint large-scale murals in Hartford, Norfolk and New London. Warda studied in New York with acclaimed artists Harvey Dinnerstein and Aaron Shikler as well as at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts. The artists participating in Woodworkers’ Group solo show are Steph Dascanio, Richard Ivany, Christopher Maglieri and Tom Bradley. On display are finely crafted functional and decorative objects. The Canton Artists’ Guild at the Gallery on the Green, the longest continuously-running artist guild in the state, has 3 separate galleries and hosts 9 month-long exhibitions each year. The gallery is located near the intersection of Dowd Avenue and Route 44 at 5 Canton Green Road in Canton. The main floor gallery is handicapped accessible.
