State lawmakers are taking up several gambling related bills, including ones that would expand sports betting and another on a proposed East Windsor casino.

In an effort to prove her Native American heritage, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren this week released results of a DNA test. 

A DNA test showing that Sen. Elizabeth Warren has Native American ancestry is "completely irrelevant to the process" of determining her tribal identity, the Cherokee secretary of state told NPR's Morning Edition.

Chuck Hoskin was also critical of President Trump, saying he "should not be calling her 'Pocahontas,' " and that he "should be looking into what the needs of Indian Country are, because the needs are there."

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said Monday an analysis of her DNA backs up her claims of Native American heritage.

The first Native American to write and publish book-length memoirs of his life and experiences was born in Colrain, Massachusetts, in 1798. His name was William Apess.
